Assistant General Counsel – Litigation at C&J Energy Services
Ba Nguyen is the Assistant General Counsel – Litigation for C&J Energy Services (NYSE: CJ). In his role, Ba oversees controversies and disputes across C&J’s various service lines and geographic areas of operation, including matters involving contracts, tort and personal injury, labor/employment, trade secrets, indemnities, collections, liens, and insurance coverage. Ba’s experience includes providing legal support for policy and strategic initiatives, and he has also managed litigation during periods of consolidation and reorganization.
Previously, Ba worked for nearly 15 years in private practice, representing plaintiffs and defendants in business and tort litigation at trial, appeal, and arbitration. He has been recognized as a Thompson Reuters Texas “Super Lawyer” and, prior to that, a “Rising Star.” He is also a Lifetime Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
Ba graduated from Rice University and the University of Texas School of Law, where he served as Notes Editor of the Texas Law Review. Upon graduation, Ba clerked for the Honorable Melinda Harmon, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and then began private practice with Vinson & Elkins LLP, focusing on complex commercial litigation. In the community, Ba has served in various governance roles, including on the Board of Directors of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, the Board of Directors for Glasstire (a leading online magazine centered on Texas visual art), and the Audit Committee of St. John’s School.
Ba is married to Gwendolyn Dawson, an attorney with Exxon Mobil, and they have two children, Sarah and Philip.
