Tonya Johannsen

General Counsel at The Beck Group

Tonya joined The Beck Group as its General Counsel in 2008 following twenty-five years in private practice as a partner at Winstead and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. In her role as General Counsel, Tonya manages the legal function for Beck’s regional and international offices and advises senior executives in go-forward strategies, risk analysis, complex litigation and on construction, architectural, technology and business issues.

Tonya graduated with high honors from Texas Tech School of Law where she published three articles while on the Law Review, was the Comments Editor and was named as the Outstanding Law Review Student. She is a frequent speaker on Ethics, Construction Law, and Real Estate issues and has served for 8 years as an adjunct professor in Trial Advocacy at SMU School of Law.

Tonya is also active in community affairs having served as the Board President for Bryan’s House and Victim’s Outreach and served on the National Advisory Board for The Women’s Global Network. She remains an active member in Attorneys’ Serving the Community.

She is married, has two daughters, Jordan and Reilly—one a TCU graduate and the younger a Senior at TCU. She actively mentors young women in business as well as those in high school and college through her involvement with the Miss Texas Pageant and was awarded the Woman of Achievement Award for the past two years for these efforts. She is ranked as an AV Preeminent Attorney which is the highest possible rating for both legal abilities and ethical standards.
