Robert C. Wendland

General Counsel at Dallas County Community College

Rob Wendland has been practicing law in the State of Texas for 34 years. After more than 30 years in private practice, in 2014, Rob became the General Counsel of the Dallas County Community College District. One of the largest community college systems in the United States, the DCCCD, with its seven colleges located throughout Dallas County, is the largest undergraduate institution of higher education in the State and serves over 100,000 students annually in credit and non-credit programs. As the chief legal officer for the DCCCD, Rob provides legal advice and guidance on myriad matters to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor and the Executive Leadership of the District and collaborates with those leaders to ensure that the resources of the DCCCD, which include more than 7,000 employees and over 1.5 million square feet of facilities, are utilized to meet the strategic priorities of the District. With a strong commitment to, and passion for, diversity and inclusiveness, Rob recognizes that education and, in particular, the training and educational programs of the DCCCD, represent the single best pathway for so many who seek opportunities for advancement.

Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Rob graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from its distinguished interdisciplinary program in history, political science and the humanities. Rob immediately entered law school at the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University and obtained his Juris Doctor degree in May 1983. After a short time as an Assistant City Attorney in Arlington, Texas, Rob joined the firm of Vial, Hamilton Koch & Knox, LLP, in Dallas, a firm at which he practiced for almost 20 years and in which he was a partner for 14 years. After leaving Vial, Hamilton, Rob practiced with two smaller firms in North Texas, before becoming General Counsel of the DCCCD in January 2014.

Rob has been married to Pam for 33 years and they have two wonderful children, Alex and Ellie.
